What recourse does a person in New Mexico have if he is being fired because of false information from a person applying for work at his company?

You would be able to sustain a defamation cause of action against the person who made these false accusations to compensate you for the loss of work resulting from these lies. Against the employer you may not have any recourse if you are an "at-will" employee as you can be fired for any or no reason at all, so long as your termination is not based on discrimination as protected under the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Since the main issue is the false information stated by this third person, then your cause of action is against the person making the false statements. This would be a defamation cause of action.
