my son in law brought his 12 year old daughter to work with

Sent to Legal Experts December 15 12:56 PM

my son in law brought his 12 year old daughter to work with him at a machine shop last night. He runs a CNC machine for a major company. He either left her alone in the lounge or had her in the machine shop. What is NC law regarding children in machine shops? is it legal? Does his behavior violate any laws by OSHA?

I have searched NC labor law and child labor law and could find nothing forbidding it because she was not working. I searched OSHA and could find nothing forbidding it because she was not working.

I am confident that it violates company policy. The employer may have liability if she were injured on their property; thus, the employer has a strong interest in keeping children and other people out of their property unless they are employees.

Thus, it appears that your son-in-law violated company policy, but I could find no child labor law or OSHA standard that he violated since she was not working but merely on the premises.

This would violate OSHA if the child was any where near the machines or on the floor where machines are opperated. Hearing damage could happen, having no hard hat, and various other aspects would violate OSHA you can report all violations via online
