I as hired as an Underwriting Manager for a company by the owners, and handed over to a dept. head that felt she should have been the one to make the decision. She refused to give me my work as I sat there for days with nothing to do, and was later hauled in by the owners to say they were terminating me because I as hired for political reasons to woo a potential partner, and they made a mistake by listening to him. I am well qualified for the job but the department manager insisted they get rid of me. I was caught in a power play. They humiliated and embarrassed me to
tears. Do you think I have a civil rights, or harrassment case?

I believe you need to file a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) HERE. Also, the firing had to be based on a true reason for termination, not a political play. You can also file a Civil Claim of Personal Injury against them for the cruel treatment, harassment, and humiliation they caused you. Depending on the size of the company and if they are under a Corporation, you may also be able to file a claim against the company for wrongful termination, harassment, and violating your civil rights.
